KIRYU ALOHA
Meisen Hieroglyph L
Meisen Hieroglyph L
From the Meisen kimono, which has abstract patterns like hieroglyphs woven throughout .
It is a geometric design from the early Showa era, when Art Deco was popular.
It is said that the trend began when wealthy people studied abroad in the West and brought Art Deco back to Japan.
Craftsmen at the time, who favored a blend of Japanese and Western styles, competed to create unique kimonos.
It evokes the modern culture of the Showa era, which used new patterns and classic Japanese colors to create playful pieces.
Even though Art Deco was popular, old-fashioned classic patterns were the mainstream, but challenging patterns like this can be said to be extremely rare.
Meisen - A plain -woven silk fabric using a technique called kasuri . This is a yarn-dyed textile that dyes the threads before they are woven. The warp threads are lined up at evenly spaced widths and are divided into upper and lower parts one by one, and the weft threads are threaded between them, which is repeated many times. It is characterized by the texture of the pattern, which is created by weaving with different colors of the warp and weft threads. Meisen was all the rage during the Taisho and Showa periods, but today it is a valuable textile that is only produced in small numbers.
