From the Meisen kimono, which has waves woven into a checkerboard pattern.
In Japan, since ancient times, ``overlapping'' itself has been considered auspicious, and it is said that ``good things overlap'' and ``celebrations overlap.''
By layering auspicious patterns that are good for good luck and used for warding off evil spirits and for celebrations, it can be said that the pattern is a combination that wishes for the happiness of the wearer.
The wave pattern has the meaning of ``eternity'' and ``immortality'' due to the appearance of continuous waves.
In addition, the checkered pattern is an auspicious pattern that means "prosperity of descendants" and "business expansion" because the same pattern continues without interruption. During the Edo period, it became popular as a pattern for the costumes of Kabuki actor Ichimatsu Sanogawa.
Meisen - A plain -woven silk fabric using a technique called kasuri . This is a yarn-dyed textile that dyes the threads before they are woven. The warp threads are lined up at evenly spaced widths and are divided into upper and lower parts one by one, and the weft threads are threaded between them, which is repeated many times. It is characterized by the texture of the pattern, which is created by weaving with different colors of the warp and weft threads. Meisen was all the rage during the Taisho and Showa periods, but today it is a valuable textile that is only produced in small numbers.
